It is an absolute privilege for me to be able to run this office for the Boatshed group on this part of the South Coast that is a designated 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'.
Chichester Harbour with its 11 square miles of water, 17 miles of well marked and lit channels and with easy access to the Solent, is an ideal water recreation centre. The Harbour has nearly 3,800 moorings, 2,000 berths in six marinas and 14 sailing clubs.
There are somewhere in excess of 10,000 boats that use this idyllic location.
It is a stunningly beautiful environment in which for me to work and for you to play. Its habitat of estuarine mud, saltmarsh, reed beds, marsh grass and farmland support a large variety of wildlife. Its waters are home to fifty species of fish and marine life, and Chichester Harbour has the highest density of wetland birds in the UK.
It is also where I spent my formative sailing years over 35 years ago, picking up a Westerly Centaur from its swing mooring along Itchenor reach. Sailing down to the Solent for the weekend, always aiming for Yarmouth but so often no quite making it due to wind and tide.
Even when the weather made it inadvisable to venture west, there was always a good anchorage to be picked up at the back of East Head or just motoring gently up to Chidham or Bosham to dinghy ashore for a well earned pint.
Nowadays though I come to the harbour to work for you, the Chichester Harbour boat owner to, I hope, provide you with the best used brokerage service in the area.
