The hull is the largest shell available at 70 feet, made by Jonathon Wilson (Tyler Wilson). Made to a “Birmingham Square” template, the shell allows for an extra three inches width at floor level when compared to a normal narrowboat; the hull sides are not tapered, they extend vertically downwards. Further, the larger roof span means a huge interior when compared against other normal boats.

The shell boasts 14 x eighteen-inch solid brass portholes (seven per side) for stunning effect, lots of light and privacy. The hull shows off a spectacular Josher bow with huge well-deck with low level exterior comfort lighting allowing four people to sit and socialise, day or night. A water filling point sits at the centre of the well deck floor giving access to the 100 gallon stainless-steel water tank. A large gas locker hatch is on show housing twin 13Kg propane cylinders and various BBQ and water filling equipment. To the port side, a small ventilation hatch houses a night-light. An inspection and maintenance hatch allows access to the electric 8hp bow thruster. A traditional rear stern allows the maximum amount of interior living space whilst allowing for a couple with children to stand together or to sit on the roof hatch.

Construction:

The shell is built on the 10/6/5/4 principle. The cream painted steel roof houses a number of antennas to supply signal to Cellphone, WiFi, TV and auto-tracking Satellite dish. A large white marine SSB vertical antenna mounted on a hinge will be removed. It has always been anticipated that when the vessel changed hands, the new owners may wish to fit a wind generator (e.g. Rutland 913) or large TV antenna. The large stud on the roof that currently holds the antenna hinge will satisfy these roles admirably and the current cabling is sufficient to seamlessly integrate a wind turbine for battery charging purposes. It is so engineered so that no additional guying will be required.

For winter heating, the boat has a Webasco Oil Fired furnace central heating system with stern-to-bow low-level radiators. The central heating system also heats the bathroom radiator, ideal for drying smaller items and towels. Central Heating controls are in the electrical control area.

Accommodation

Entering the boat through double stable doors with a double lock and crystal edged glass, one is immediately struck by the massive scale of this boat; sumptuous oak-floored saloon, under-gunwale single piece matching oak panels and single-piece walls and ceiling panels. 12 volt down-lighters and low-level LED lighting to walkway and gunwales are switchable from multi-point brass surround domestic wall switches throughout. A large “Houdini” hatch recessed in the ceiling gives both light and fresh-air.

On the starboard side, a quad-seat futon made in American oak, finished in black and gold bentley stripe, folds into a comfortable double bed whilst still allowing a walkway down one side of the vessel. Facing the futon is a full length, feature cabinet with 6 doors to allow storage of CDs, magazines, maps and personal items. A hidden 12 cigar socket allows for charging of mobile phones etc.

To the port bow area of the saloon, a 19 inch, 12 volt “Avtex” Digital Freeview Widescreen TV and Caro auto-tracking satellite system is mounted which also acts as a DVD, Computer monitor, CD player and FM radio. A pull-out drawer under the TV houses a computer keyboard which connects to a Dell Optiplex PC which sits inside the cabinet. For technology lovers, a complete wireless broadband system acts upon the whole boat, turning it into a private WiFi hot spot, acquiring fast digital internet from the T-Mobile network. Ideal for iphones, laptops etc. Two super-high-gain marine antennas mounted on the roof acquire signals from the digital network, even in very difficult areas.

The latest, super-slim auto-seeking Caro satellite dish by Oyster is mounted on the roof, nearest the bow which picks up all the Europeans satellite signals. Ideal with a Sky Box or FreeSat box, the system will send satellite signals to all four (4) TVs on board.

Opposite the entertainment systems is a tradition solid fuel “wood” burner by “Bubble” with chimney system to roof and attractive tile surround and a base fabricated in solid oak.

Moving towards the dinette, the custom oak-made table is mounted on a pair of removable turned-oak desmo legs. The dinette soft cushioning is in matching black and gold bentley fabric with additional cushions that astride the ample storage space under. When not in use, the table moves into a parked position opposite and the legs clip into a parked place. The dinette converts to a full double-bed, utilising the solid oak table as a base and the cushioning appropriately moves to cover the whole base as a 5 foot wide double bed. Opposite the table is a large glazed hatch with external steel doors fronted in carved oak panelling.

The large 10 foot kitchen has a hidden full-sized washing machine, domestic fridge, oven and grill. With huge mains electric capability, the boat sports an electric toaster and kettle with three double sockets spread equally. Worktops are from the custom “Avonite” range. A “magic corner” cupboard is complimented by over-worktop storage, in solid oak, surrounding a porthole. Low level LED lighting to skirting and worktop lighting is switched from a domestic brass switch-plate.

A full-sized hatch with steel doors faced in carved oak on the starboard size allows for fresh air and a large amount of light. A toughened, clear polycarbonate window is arranged that can be fitted when required, housed beneath.

Moving through the oak door with brass door furniture to the first of the bedrooms, the full-sized bunk room shows off a surprising amount of floor space, even accounting for a full sized single bed on the lower bunk. The top bunk is accessed via a turned and carved solid-oak ladder. Both beds have a pair of 12 volt personal lighting options, 10 inch TV/DVD/Radio and CD player with headphone sockets and the lower bunk sports a Playstation games consule with controllers.

Beyond the bunks are two large floor-to-ceiling cupboards with courtesy lighting. Under the bottom bunk resides drawer units for personal storage. 12 volts and 240 volts sockets are available in the cupboards and on the starboard wall.

Through the door to the bathroom area and walk-way storage area: On the port side of the walk-way is mounted a floor-to-ceiling drinks storage area. A sliding door to the bathroom shows a granite-effect moulded surround and wash-handbasin, a fresh-water toilet, moulded storage and a full-sized “power shower” with a W-type folding door. Ceramic tiling to floor. Electric shaver point along with elegant toilet roll holders, towel rails and chrome bathroom radiator powered from the central heating system.

Master bedroom: An oak-framed bed surrounds a soft-spec luxury double mattress with under bed storage, drawers and hidden coffee table. A 19 inch, 12 volts Avtex widescreen TV and DVD combo sits at the foot of the bed which also acts as FM radio and CD player. Under the concealed service area sits the black-water tank, shower pumps and 40 litre hot-water calorifier tank. A number of personal lighting options are complimented in the cabin by down-lighters and low-level LED lighting. A personal dressing table is fitted next to a full-sized master wardrobe with courtesy lighting. A number of power outlets, both 240v and 12v are available.

The rear door leads into the stern area; with electrical panel, wet cupboard, and the various ship control systems. Outside the hatch, opened via two internal brass locking bolts, are located the rear navigation lights, tiller, weed-hatch and shore-power connector.
