P10317. Ex Admiralty wooden boat. 40' hull, 10'6" beam.
Built in 1939 as a pinnace by Thornycroft, with added cabin and used as a harbour taxi at HMS Vernon.
Believed to have served at Dunkerque and Malta but not confirmed.
Parsons Pike 4cyl marine diesel engine. Many brass fittings throughout (including ship's wheel).
The hull is sound but the cabin sides have rot. Someone with more skills (and time) than me needed to bring this historic vessel back to her former glory.
Hull: timber outer carvel with inner diagonal shallow V with long keel.
Build date:1939
Specifications:LOA: 40’ , Beam: 10’6” , Draught: 3’
She is of carvel construction with diagonal internal planking, using hardwood planking (said to be teak) on oak frames.
The bow and stern have been sheathed with copper plates.

The steering system is cable and pulley controlled by a bronze ship’s wheel helm in the wheel house. The rudder stock is hung on the transom and supported at the lower edge by a bracket extending from the skeg.
The craft is equipped with two 200 litre steel fuel tanks, which are located either side of the wheel house, balanced with a copper pipe. The tank fillers are located above on the side decks.
The propeller shaft is made in three sections supported on several support bearings fitted with a rubber damper type coupling. The stern gland is a conventional packing gland with a remote greaser.
