Launched in 1988 Anna is one of the last sailing barges to be built in Amsterdam, by the shipyard owner Simon Beffers and named after his wife. This beautiful Dutch barge is an exceptionally well-built vessel that would cost in excess of £400,000 to build nowadays; she attracts much admiration everywhere she goes. She still has her original drop-down mast and all sailing gear.
The boat is modern enough to be in excellent condition but follows the traditional lines of a Friesland Skutsje. She has a full and good hull survey valid for 10 years from August 2025, her hull is as thick as the day she was built. Simon Beffers borrowed original plans from the Amsterdam Ship Museum, his shipyard being less than a kilometre away from the museum. He built it to the highest standard for his own use and his family to enjoy.
We have historic photographs of the build from the base plate up!
We lived aboard Anna for 10 years whilst in London. She is equipped fully for off-grid living with solar panels, a generator, a traditional wet central heating system and also a freestanding “Alaska” diesel heater. She has a washing machine, microwave, twin gas hob and a 12/240v fridge. She has a double-glazed main cabin. 240v shore power. The 12v wiring and fuse boxes were updated in 2017.
This beautiful boat is unique, the only one in the world. We have been the custodians of Anna for the last 18 years and are hoping for a new custodian who will keep the boat as original as it is now and not remove the mast. We have increased the height of the Galley/Lounge using European Oak and keeping the original lines and the boom clears this so she can sail. She has a 55HP diesel engine and comes with a full sailing gaff rig, ropes and sails, the original, unused traditional rope fenders, winches and two anchors.
Power comes from 3 sources: Solar, a gas-powered 2600 generator or the diesel engine, which has an alternator booster. No petrol needs to be stored onbard.
Stirling pro inverter, Stirling alternator booster. 3 x 110ah leisure batteries. 1x dedicated starter battery and 1x 110ah leisure battery dedicated to the diesel central heating. There is a split charge system. 2x 60 solar panels and MMPT regulator, with Bluetooth monitoring, for domestic and starter battery. 1x45 solar panel for heating battery.
She has a main cabin, the owner’s cabin, with a large double bed and an Alaska diesel heater. There is a small double guest bed in the fore cabin. The WC is an Elsan, and there is a demountable shower and shower tray that is covered, in the galley floor.
We can send links to a Dutch magazine article about her build and a timeline of her history and owners on the Dutch association of flat and round bottom boats. Understandably, Appolo Duck do not allow links to external sites

Please do ask questions, but a viewing, it is the only way to appreciate this truly wonderful boat. She is moored on the Kennet and Avon Canal in Wiltshire. You would need to talk to the CRT about the possibilities of a mooring transfer.
