Pintail is a Beneteau Oceanis 36cc sailing boat. We have owned and loved Pintail for the past 12 years, having many adventures travelling over 14,000 nautical miles including local travel to blue ocean sailing. She is a well equipped vessel perfect for solo/short handed sailing, locally or on longer voyages. We have completed the bulk of our sailing with just the two of us on board. Centre cockpit sailing feels extra safe, with all lines and controls accessible from the cockpit. The main sail is ‘has in mast furling’ which means no need leave the cockpit to reef.

Sails
We have replaced both the main and the genoa for blue water sails. The main sail is ‘in mast furling’ which gives endless options to reef to the sail to the precise amount of sail needed for the current wind, just like a genoa. The main sail has three vertical batons to ensure the sail maintains its rigidity. She has a beautifully bright coloured A-symmetric spinnaker, which adds speed and grace to down wind sailing. Colour coded lines make it easy to assemble, fly and a snuffer to ensures a quick recovery when needed. She has a spinnaker pole conveniently located on the safety rail at the bow, which we have used mainly to goose wing the gib.
Deck
She has a teak folding passerelle, with two mounts at differing heights. The teak decks have been replaced with SeaDek composite (plastic) teak. The SeaDek is a high quality composite which imitates teak decks. While maintaining an aesthetically genuine look, it provides a more durable, easy to maintain deck. She has a fixed perspex windscreen with a large spray hood to offer protection from rogue waves. In 2024 we had a custom made cockpit enclosure commissioned. The cockpit enclosure is sectional so can be in any combination from completely enclosed to just the top cover. In rainy weather we have sailed with the enclosure up, leaving just the back section open. The cockpit enclosure is a game changer in both the adverse UK weather and the blistering heat/sun in the Mediterranean. There are multiply clear sections to ensure maximum visibility, including a clear roof panel to see the sails and mast instruments. She has an electric windlass for the anchor, with a long continuous chain suitable for deep anchorages. A second anchor and chain is held in a check locker.
Bow thruster
Pintail is fitted with a bow thruster which aids manoeuvrability when in marinas. The controls are located on the binnacle for easy use.
Navigation
She has a large B&G main chart plotter located on the coach roof, with a second smaller plotter on the binnacle. There are two B&G instrument displays on the coach roof, with which you can toggle through to display the relevant information. Two USB sockets are located by the instruments. She has full navigation lights at the top of the mast and a motoring set on the bow/stern. She has the standard depth finder but additionally she has a forward facing depth finder. The forward facing depth finder can be overlaid onto the chart plotter with a traffic light coding to warn if the approaching depth is too shallow. She is fitted with radar, which can again be overlaid on the chart plotter.
Engine
She has Volvo Penta 2030B engine.
Electric generation
She has a wind turbine which was replaced in 2023. Three solar panels are mounted on the gantry, out of the way of both sailing and enjoying the sun deck. The wind turbine and solar panels are all run through a Victron system which includes an invertor, located in the engine compartment. She has 3 leisure batteries and 2 isolated start batteries. Throughout the interior are both 240v and 12v sockets.
Interior
Pintail can comfortably accommodate four people for extended periods of time split between the master and the bow cabin. With plenty of overnight room for 6-7 people for shorter hops.
The master bed has been extended and turned from bow/stern facing to port/starboard orientation to extend the bed into what was a seating area. Custom made memory foam topped spring mattress were made from ShipShape, with under mattress dry anti-moisture mat protection to ensure added airflow in the bed. The mattress is made up from three sections to enable easy movement to access the under bed storage and fuel tank. The fuel tank holds 150 litres. The third section has a lifting insert board, so it could be removed to reinstate the original seating area and bow/stern bed orientation if desired. The master cabin has ample storage space and both wardrobes have been lined with airtec foil insulation. A vanity with mirror and charging point makes the master a comfortable practical space. The master has access hatches to the autopilot steering, rudder post, fuel tank and the back entrance to the engine.
The bow cabin has a generous double bed, with two wardrobes. The bed is over the main water storage tank, with an observation hatch under the mattress. Within the port wardrobe is a BlueRay player which connects through the bulkhead to the TV in the saloon. The starboard side locker houses the lubrication system for the bow thruster.
Within the saloon an insert panel can be added to the port side seating to create an additional double sleeping space. The infill cushion was designed to fit the cockpit seating area to maximise utility.
The saloon has a large bi folding table build around the compression post, with a built in storage. With the table fully up there is space to squeeze about 9 people around it. The starboard side seating is above the central water tank. Between the two water tanks the storage capacity is around 420 litres. With the port side seating covering a 23 litre hot water tank and ample storage. A TV is mounted on the cabin bulkhead in addition to a large brass clock and barometer.
The chart table is large enough to use paper charts and has storage space to house them and other navigational aids. The control panels are all located within this space making everything in easy reach when sailing.
The galley is a long double sided space, with multiple places to brace making it convenient and usable on passage. The gas hob have been upgraded to a gimbled three burner top with a large oven space. The galley has ample worktop space. As we have spent extended time travelling on Pintail we added a microwave and we had a table top electric oven, coffee machine and popped an electric hob onto of the gas burner to make the most of the electricity. The top loading fridge/freezer is versatile as it can either be one large fridge or it has a separation board to turn one end into a freezer. The fridge compressor was serviced and re-gassed in 2025. The whole length of the boat is ample space in the bilge, which was often used for additional storage of provisions on long journeys.
There is one large head, with Jack and Jill style doors which lead in from the salon or the master cabin. The toilet has been upgraded to domestic standard size bowl and seat for additional comfort. There is a Black water holding tank fitted in the bathroom locker, a needed requirement for traveling in foreign ports.
She has a Eberspächer diesel heater.
Pintail’s home port is currently Ramsgate Royal Harbour. Ramsgate is a beautiful location with great access to both the south and east coast as well as a great springboard to Europe and beyond.
