Description

Mizpah was built on the Dart in 1994 by the renowned Pete Nash. She was built to the 1907 G.U. Laws’ design for the Sea View Mermaid. Her construction is larch on oak frames with teak decks. Pete Nash re-designed her sail plan and spars to increase the sail area of the main and to include a topsail. She has a bracket for an outboard motor with the motor itself being stowed beneath the counter.

Mizpah has taken part in YOGAFF on a regular basis and has raced successfully in the Solent and in Falmouth for the last 27 years winning the Jubilee Trophy in the Round-the-Island on multiple occasions, the Long Tackle trophy at YOGAFF, the Otter Cup in the Town Regatta at Seaview (twice) as well as many other races. She is fast, exceptionally elegant with superb seakeeping and sailing performance in both light and heavy airs. She was featured on the front cover of Classic Boat in September 2012.

She comes with a full set of sails (main (serviced Winter 2025), two jibs (Nos 2 and 3), genoa, topsail, reaching sail and balloon spinnaker), all spars and wooden spinnaker poles, anchor and chain, warps, lines and fenders, a good quality and lightly-used road trailer (RM Trailers), and a 2008 Tohatsu 3.5hp, boom and cockpit covers. She has been professionally maintained throughout her life and properly stored in the winter in boatsheds (from 2000 by AA Coombes in Bembridge and the Freshwater Boatyard (St Mawes)). She was given a new mast in 2015, a new (stainless steel) gooseneck in 2017, new standing rigging in 2021, her topsides were re-painted in 2023 and she was antifouled for the 2026 season and her brightwork and spars sanded and varnished. She is ready to sail, currently lying on her mooring off Seaview, Isle of Wight.
