WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE VERITY K
Berthed at Port Solent Marina, Portsmouth
A Countess 35, built by the Colvic Countess designer Ian Anderson as a wheelchair accessible cruiser launched by HRH Princess Anne in 1996 for the registered charity the Disabled Sailors Association. 1028993
Length = 35 feet
Beam = 12.5 feet
Draft = 4.5 feet
Weight = 7 tons
Cutter rig with tall mast option
Bilge keel
Engine Yanmar 30
Fuel 250 ltrs
Water 250 ltrs.
The side cut out to allow wheelchair access does not allow water into the cockpit at anytime as it is above the waterline at all times. All the main controls can be reached by a person on a wheelchair but deck and mast access is not wheelchair accessible. The hydraulic lift from the cockpit to the saloon is very reliable but should not be used unless the yacht is upright, i.e. sailing down wind or motoring upwind. The sole (floor) below decks is raised to allow wider doors for wheelchair access to front and rear cabins. The mast post was replaced by a reinforced grp ring around the hull to allow a spacious saloon.
