Still regarded as Michel Dufour’s masterpiece, following the huge success of his iconic Arpege 30, the 1971 – 1982 Dufour 35 incorporated design features copied by many builders in the years that followed.
IDUNA is a notably strong yacht which has been well fitted out and equipped for high latitude voyaging. In the last 11 years many upgrades and refitting have been carried out. She now being sold because her crew has flown the nest and a retirement downsize is sought.
A great liveaboard layout had made this model popular with ocean travelling families.

The main cabin offers 3 berths: a starboard berth with U shaped seating opposite around the table which drops to enable a double berth to be formed. The table opens out to double size with the starboard berth providing further additional seating. A generous pilot berth extends under the cockpit seating. The forward cabin provides another double berth over the sail storage locker.
The design retains lift up backrests behind the main cabin port and starboard berths which lift up to form pipe cot berths for two further agile crew and expose extra width for the lower berths both sides. In most cruising adaptations the ‘cots’ are used for shelving which on IDUNA has been fitted out as a bar with glasses storage on the aft port side. Both forward starboard shelving sections have retaning bars for bookshelf use. Behind and below the lift up backrest are open lockers and a drawer each side.
With the pipe cots berths redundant the backrests on IDUNA have been extended to give full back support when seated. The original design had a full bulkhead between the galley/chart table section to facilitate night watch galley use and navigation without disturbing off watch crew. This and the rudder and skeg design follow the same arrangement as the earlier 30 foot ‘Arpege’ model, popular for, and successfully used, for racing. On this Dufour 35, many models intended primarily for cruising still have the door frame minus the door, with the upper section of bulkhead cut out to form a generous trimmed opening between the galley and main cabin.
As with many cruising yachts of this era, the heads, basin and shower facility is amidships between the main and forward cabins.
A deep safe cockpit has teak strip finished port and starboard seating which continues behind the tiller post shaft. Behind that is an aft locker. A drained locker for a Camping Gaz 907 2.75kg bottle and a large, deep port side locker have lids set in the seating.
A notably thick hull with deep reinforcing cross beams over its encapsulated keel made for an exceptionally strong, powerful boat with balanced lines which performs especially well in medium to high winds. This made it revolutionary in its own way, so much so that it still is appreciated by discerning sailors today, including live aboard cruising families on ocean cruising voyages. A further benefit is the full bonded inner moulding lining which creates an air cavity that help with a degree of thermal insulation.
