Blue J was built in 1988 by Gibsea/Dufour & sold through their UK distributor Caravela yachts in Southampton, 200 were built between 1987 & 1993.
The 242 is a versatile light & airy 4 berth yacht with fractional rig & swing keel easily handled solo or with crew.
Many upgrades over the years have kept Blue J's specification at a high level.
Located on the South Coast she is currently out of the water for winter storage & annual maintenance.

Accommodation

Modern style of layout with main saloon comprising side berths, galley to port, chart table to starboard, central folding table, soft furnishings & curtains. Separate heads compartment & aft double berth. Teak & teak faced timber panels throughout. Storage under side & forward seating. 20L fresh water tank with deck filler under starboard side seat.

Galley: Plastimo Neptune 2000 gas hob/grille, sink with electric pumped fresh water, cold box & ample storage.

Heads: Jabsco marine toilet, wet gear hanging space & hand basin with electric pumped fresh water.

Construction

White GRP hull & topsides with non slip decks, large comfortable self draining cockpit, cast iron ballast sole plate with swing keel & lifting transom hung rudder.
With the swing keel raised she draws only 0.4M & with the keel being fully recessed when up she takes the ground flat.

Equipment

Electrical: Two 110Ah leisure batteries with solar charging via PV Logic solar panel (mounted on coachroof) & twin charge controller (all new in 2023).
12V electrics with switch/fuse panels, led cabin lights, USB outputs, battery isolator/selector, charge monitors & 240V shore power. (all new in 2024).
Diesel fuelled 12V blown hot air system (new in 2023).
Manual bilge pump.

Sails & Spars

Fractional rig by Z Spars (new in 2004), standing st/st rigging (replaced in 2023), running rigging checked & replaced as required, Plastimo genoa roller reefing (new drum in 2004) slab reef main with Stackpack (new in 2022), & adjustable backstay.

Mainsail with two slab reef positions, 100% genoa with UV strip both by Jeckells Sails (new in 1999) & all sheets. Sails have been checked, maintained as required & laundered. Good for at least another couple of seasons.

Two sheet winches, two halyard winches on coachroof with Barton jammers, halyard bags & winch handles.

Transom mounted swim ladder.

Pushpit mounted bracket for tender outboard, horse shoe life ring, & ensign mast.

16Lb plough anchor with 10M chain & 30M warp mounted in bow locker with bow roller.
