GAIA has been a much loved narrowboat for me to renovate and live on for the past 6 months whilst caring for my father in Wales. Now time to return to Australia.
I became the owner of GAIA in September 2020 (Surveyed and Blacked in June 2020) and to my knowledge has had 2 previous owners. She is a 55ft boat with a VETUS 55KGF Bowthruster). BSS till 2022
I have spent the past 6 months renovating her whilst living on board.
She has been totally repainted on the external and renovated to modern style on the inside.
The brilliant signwriting and artwork that was done by Keith Pollitt and appears in ‘The Liveaboard Guide' by Tony Jones has been carefully preserved and bordered in red.
As painting was my trade I have used good quality International Toplac paints. Rust spots have been treated undercoat and 3 to 4 topcoats applied. The roof has had 2 x coats of interdeck applied over the original non slip coating once any rust spots removed, treated and non slip sand applied. Bilge /engine bay/front and back lockers have again been rust treated , undercoated and 3 coats Danbolene applied.
The engine bay contains
An ISUZU 4 cylinder 38hp diesel engine with keel cooling and hospital silencer running through a PR 150 gearbox.
The fuel tank 120-150lt
The engine has done 1222 hours and will be serviced again mid April.
A Webasto diesel heater for the central heating (5 radiators)
Starter Battery 1 x 110Ah
5 House battery Bank 5 x 110Ah
Weed Hatch repainted and new seals.
The stern lockers contain various Windlass to suit all UK locks along with chain/ropes/mooring pins/hammer and mooring clips.
Going down into the boat
On the portside (left) is the electrical cupboard with new Stirling power Inverter charger with shore power input along with the solar regulator for the 2 x 100w tiltable roof solar panels. There are also USB charging ports. Also here there is a hanging area for coats etc.
On the starboard side is the expansion tank from the Central heating to Webasto diesel heater.
The internal of the boat is of a modern appearance not old timber panelling.
All lighting throughout the boat is 12v LED except one extra 240v LED in the kitchen.
Next moving towards the bow is the bedroom with full sized double bed with storage under and cupboards above. There are 1 x 240v dual outlet with 2 x USB outlets. In addition there are 2 additional USB outlets running off the 12v system.
The bathroom has new flooring and wall due to previous owners running too high water pressure and calorifier overpressue not being vented to exterior of boat. The calorifier is now correctly fitted with overpressure drain and is heated either by the engine when running, the Webasto when running or 240v mains. Vanity/cupboards and new Thetford cassette toilet compliment the quadrant shower with glass doors. The gulper pump and extractor fan both run off the 12v system.
Next is the kitchen with new cabinets/worktop and double sink. The tap has the addition of a filtered water outlet with filter under the sink. The stove is an LPG upright 4 burner gas with griller and seperate oven (supplied by 2 x 13kg gas bottles in front locker). The Fridge freezer is a 4 star rated Inlander 240v that automatically changes to/from 12v when no 240v supply. It is efficient and large having a 90lt fridge compartment and 45 lt freezer compartment. There is a microwave that sits on the topof the fridge. Next to this is 1 x 240v dual outlet with the addition of 2 x high output USB sockets.
Next is the dining area with more power outlets and woodstove followed by lounge area with large settee (able to accommodate a 6ft sleeper) more 240v power outlets plus a folding bed. There is also a 32inch LED TV that runs off 240v plus an additional 12v inverter if you do not wish to run the inverter. Lighting in the lounge is remote control dimmable LED.
In the bow is 2 x wooden doors with glass inserts leading to Cratch area and front lockers with water tank below. These contain 2 x batteries which supply the VETUS 55 Bowthruster – If you have one use it as it makes life simple in tight or windy spaces. If you do not have one just tell everybody that they are unnecessary!!! I would not be without one.
The photos of the bathroom are awaiting updating as new vinyl has been ordered for the floor
I think that is enough to digest if truly interested email or phone and view.
