For sale: Steam Launch Poseidon

Ill health reluctantly forces Poseidon to be offered for sale as a project.

The sale price covers the cost of the Marine Steam Engine. There is effectively no charge for the hull, boiler and fittings.

Engine
Double action, Single cylinder. 2.5" X 2.5". Built 2015.
Piston valve. Power: ~6 HP; chain driven feed pump.

Hull
Open Launch: based on the Felix15 designed by Selway-Fisher built 2017. Plans are included in this sale. LOA: 16' 5”; 5.0m, LWL: 14' 9”; 4.5m, Beam: 6' 7”; 2.0m, Draft: 2' 7”; 0.78m. Construction: Strip plank 25mm x 12 mm edge glued chopped strand mat inside and out resin coated and two-pack epoxy paint finish.

Boiler
Ofeltd type; Pressure set at 100 psi but Poseidon operates at 80psi. 12 x 0.59" dia Copper tubes arranged in spirals. Silver soldered; all copper construction. Although functional, the boiler will need to be assessed for a design statement, tested and qualified by SBA Services Limited who can issue a certificate for insurance required on UK waterways. Water feed system comprises a new galvanised water tank, keel condenser, engine driven water pump, electric feed pump with solar panel and battery, hand feed pump, pressure gauge, 3 x cock water gauge, whistle. The detachable funnel is fixed into position for steaming with a locking ring and removed for transport and cover fitting.

Project Status
The boiler and water feed system are currently disconnected awaiting new pipework and valves. Temporary pipework/connectors are included. Originally propane gas fuelled, Poseidon was undergoing a refit to convert her to coal firing with a new boiler base, boiler support, ash pan, grate and door assembly (all as yet to be acquired and not in the sale). Alternatively, she can be reassembled for propane gas firing or converted to oil firing. Poseidon is now under a tailored cover and on a trailer which can be made available separately if required. Rear seating is currently fixed but the central bench seating can be configured as required.
