nb Dragon is an all steel 30 foot cruiser stern narrowboat built in 1977
We have recently finished an interior refit, having purchased the boat to use when one of us was a night shift worker, allowing each of us to have space. It has also served us well as a holiday/ weekend boat and as guest accommodation to supplement our 58 footer.
A change of job makes it a little redundant and an expensive addition to our lives.
We love Dragon and are reluctantly offering it for sale.
The re-fit has been done to a high standard and included adding kingspan insulation board.
There was an out of water pre-purchase survey carried out in August 2018.
Issues highlighted by the surveyor were addressed.
The survey is available for inspection.
Dragon is powered by a BMC 1.5d engine that has recently had a filter and oil change.
It cold starts well and runs well.
There are no oil or fuel leaks and the under engine tray is dry and clean.
There are two 110amp Leisure batteries and a 100amp starter battery.
The engine bay is accessed by a steel cover on the stern deck.
Within the engine bay is a functioning automatic bilge pump.
The accommodation cabin is open plan with a large bed partially under the bow deck.
Under this is a fresh water holding tank, the filler is on the front deck. There is also a huge very easily accessible storage space here.
Above the bed, on the front cabin bulkhead are double doors, allowing through access and an emergency escape route.
There is a compact wet room, adjacent to the bed comprising a Thetford 260 series cassette toilet, this is a ceramic bowl model. There is an integral shower tray pumped out by a Whale gulper pump. The shower is fed by a 60litre calorifier, heated by the engine, which is located in the engine bay. This has a thermostatic controlled output allowing a direct feed of hot water to the shower controlled by one tap,
The wet room was newly built recently with new components and is hardly used
Opposite the wet room is the kitchen area, with a ceramic butler style sink with hot and cold water feed. This drains directly overboard by gravity.
The kitchen units are newly installed, supplied by Ikea. The counter is solid oak and has a Thetford Topline 931 3 ring hob. This is new and hardly used. It was installed by a Gas safe registered fitter.
The lounge area is largely open plan with only the Morso multifuel stove being a fixed item.
There is an Ercol drop-leaf table with two foldable stools. a single vintage H.Lit armchair and an oak chest of drawers.
There is adequate boot storage and coat hanging space.
There is a 300watt invertor wired directly to a twin 13amp socket adjacent to the kitchen.
There is storage for mooring pins and hammer under the step adjacent to the steel split stable style entrance door.
During the refit we found that there had been some water ingress under the cabin floor, from insecure water feed pipes. All the pipework was replaced as was a section of the sub floor. The base plate was cleaned and painted before the ballast was replaced and new plywood sections laid. Over this has been laid a solid oak floor.
An inspection hatch was fitted and it is evident that there is no water under the floor. Just cobwebs!
There is overhead lighting along both sides of the boat, all individually switched with led fittings.
As daytime sleeping was required we had bespoke lined blackout curtains made for the windows, the rails are copper and brass.
The windows are all watertight and we rarely have to deal with condensation.
There are numerous 12v power points, with both 'cigar lighter' and usb ports.
Dragon is a beautifully equipped boat and well known and in excellent condition.
It would suit a single person or a cosy couple.
It is well equipped for live aboard or would make an awesome weekend boat, it can be spun around in the width of a narrow canal reducing the time you might spend travelling to a winding hole.
It is located on the Kennet & Avon Navigation and currently has a home mooring in West Wiltshire.
This isn't a transferable mooring but 2 months notice would be given by us to vacate so perhaps a new keeper could use it for this time.
I am a RYA qualified helmsman and would be happy to assist in the relocation of Dragon, if required.
The dog, dog bed and box of dog toys, unfortunately cannot be offered with the sale.
