A rare opportunity to secure an Oakums 60ft Open Bow build slot for completion in May 2027.
Designed for owners who want a more open, contemporary way to experience the waterways, the Oakums Open Bow combines a private forward deck with expansive glazing, oversized skylights and uninterrupted sightlines. Glazed bedroom doors open directly onto the bow, creating a strong connection between the interior and the water.
The shell will be manufactured in the UK by respected narrowboat builder Jonathan Wilson from September 2026, followed by a complete Oakums fitout. The interior can be personalised around the buyer, including the layout, cabinetry, finishes, upholstery, bathroom arrangement and choice of pump out or cassette toilet. Layouts can accommodate up to six berths.
The featured electric specification uses a 15kW Törkmar Tidal direct drive propulsion system. Developed specifically for displacement boats, it provides near silent cruising, instant torque and precise low speed control. An 800Ah 51.2V lithium battery system provides approximately 41kWh of storage, with larger capacities available if required. Solar arrays of up to 3kW can be integrated alongside shoreline and optional generator charging to support extended, more independent cruising.
Every Oakums boat is designed as a complete onboard energy system, bringing propulsion, battery storage, solar charging and power management together through integrated monitoring.
Inside, natural light, carefully controlled sightlines and intelligent storage create an interior that feels calm, spacious and practical. Materials include marine plywood rather than MDF or chipboard, carefully selected European or American oak, stone surfaces and durable finishes chosen for long term use.
The planned layout includes a mudroom entrance, fully equipped galley, dining area, generous saloon, bathroom and forward bedroom opening onto the private bow deck. Alternative arrangements can be developed during the design process.
Diesel propulsion is also available for buyers who prefer a traditional drivetrain.
Every new Oakums build is supplied with RCD certification and a Boat Safety Scheme certificate from new. Systems are designed to remain accessible and serviceable, with comprehensive warranty coverage and continued support after handover.
The photographs show representative Oakums interiors and demonstrate the standard of craftsmanship, materials and design available. The final boat will be created around its owner.
Build commences September 2026. Expected completion May 2027. Enquire early to secure the build slot and begin the personal design process.
