Silver Mist is a 55ft Semi-Trad 4 berth narrowboat, built in 1999 with steelwork by respected boat builder David Piper and full professional fit-out by Sabre Narrow Boats. Powered by 33.5hp Beta Marine diesel engine. We are currently continuously cruising on the Kennet and Avon canal.
She is true to her original design, still maintaining all of her original features, in particular her beautiful wood panelled interior, and has been meticulously preserved and cared for by the previous owner (civil engineer) resulting in a boat in immaculate condition and full of charm
She was fully surveyed in may this year (2025). The survey confirmed she was in a great condition. We can share the full survey upon viewing the boat. After the survey was completed the hull was blacked (may 2025). She also has a BSC certificate that is valid until feb 2027, so she’s needing no work done for a while!
Wether you are looking for a boat that is ready to go with all of its original English traditional canal boat character, or looking for a boat that provides a great foundation for an interior renovation, silver mist can be either!
Aboard her we have completed the Leeds Liverpool, Manchester ship canal, Shropshire union, Coventry and oxford canal to name a few, and throughout every journey she’s been incredibly reliable, comfortable and a pleasure to cruise on.
Our plan was to continue to live on her full time, however an unforeseen opportunity has come up, which requires us to relocate in 2026, so with regret we will be selling her.
Walk through from the bow:
Fun fact: As the original Owner of the boat was very tall, he had the floor lowered when they built it so amble headroom!
Front well deck
The bow incorporates a steel forward locker providing secure storage for the river anchor, mooring pins, fenders, hose-reel etc. Further storage is provided beneath the seats to either side of the well deck. The tunnel light is mounted on Piper Boats’ distinctive mast at the front of the well deck, with a 150 gallon stainless steel water tank located below.
Saloon
Entry to the saloon is via half glazed doors, with windows to either side giving occupants a clear view ahead. Two half height corner cupboards are located to either side of the door, with further storage provided below the entrance step. The saloon currently contains loose furniture, but will accommodate a futon/bed-settee if additional births are required.
Galley
The galley incorporates a Venette inset 4 burner gas hob, with under-counter built-in gas oven and grill together with matching enamel sink and drainer. Storage to the port side comprises a double under sink base cupboard plus five drawer base unit together with two double wall cupboards either side of the window. To the starboard side is a further double base cupboard, under counter 12volt fridge and built-in wine rack.
Dinette
The raised Pullman style dinette incorporates a demountable table top, allowing the dinette to be converted to a double bed utilising the upholstered foam seat cushions. The dinette seats also incorporate storage space below. The side hatch is located adjacent to the dinette.
Shower room
The shower room comprises a fully tiled shower enclosure with folding door, corner vanity unit with storage cupboard beneath and Mansfield Traveler pump-out toilet. Additional storage comprises a concealed void beside the shower, with access via mirrored doors and shelf below. A further full height wardrobe cupboard is provided adjacent to the shower, accessed from the corridor.
Bedroom
The bedroom accommodates a 6’7” x 4’6” fixed double bed, with storage drawers beneath. The overhead cupboard incorporates two adjustable bed over reading lights. A four drawer built-in chest is provided at the foot of the bed, a wardrobe cupboard is provided to the port side of the rear doors, with additional hanging space to the starboard side. The space below the rear steps also incorporates a storage cupboard and adjacent under-step storage. Natural lighting to the bedroom is provided by porthole windows.
Rear deck
Access to the rear deck is via steel rear doors, wood panelled internally and sliding roof hatch. The Beta BV1305 engine, batteries and diesel tank, are located beneath the rear deck. Split deck boards provide easy access for routine engine checks, but are easily removable to provide access for engine servicing, the weed hatch and battery box etc. The single lever engine control is mounted on the port side just inside the rear doors, with a steel locker/seat also located to the port side. Connection for a 240volt shoreline supply cable is located on the bulkhead above the port side locker. The engine control panel and 12v distribution panel are also located on the port side just inside the rear doors.
Stern deck
The gas locker and diesel tank are located below the stern deck, with two perch seats at the rear.
Heating
Cabin heating is by a Webasto ‘Thermotop C’ diesel heater (fitted Dec 2013) serving four radiators. Domestic hot water is by means of a twin coil calorifier heated by the engine heat exchanger and/or by the Webasto diesel heater.
Whilst we have an incredibly recent survey, if you want to get the boat surveyed yourself we are happy to cruise her to a location on the Kennet and Avon for you to have the survey done for serious buyers!
