B’s Nest is a 52ft cruiser stern style narrowboat built in 1998 by PKB Narroboats and fitted out by Calcutt. We originally purchased her in the summer of 2020 and she has been an amazing home for myself and wife as we have continuously cruised around the London canals and rivers over the past 4 and a half years. Our circumstances have changed so we are returning to land which is the reason for our reluctant sale.
She was last surveyed in July of 2020 which showed minimal loss to original steel hull which used high quality steel: bottom plates 6.9mm-8.7mm (original 8mm); side plates 5.5-6.1mm (original 6mm); side plates below swim plates 7.4-8.2mm (original 8mm). Minimal pitting was also reported: 1.5mm on base plates, 1.25mm on side plates. She was most recently blacked in October 2023 at which point 4x additional low-profile anodes were also installed. BSC valid until March 2027.
Entering from the stern we have a kitchen area with Vanette LPG gas hob and oven, and Waeco 12v undercounter fridge/freezer. As seen throughout the rest of the boat we have plenty of cupboard storage, in addition to further storage under the dinette seats. The dinette and cushions disassemble into an additional single bed for having guests over.
Adjoined to the kitchen is the lounge area with a futon style couch which can also pull out into an additional double bed. A side-hatch is positioned on the starboard side which can be fully opened up on those nice sunny days. Solid fuel heating is provided by the popular and reliable Morso Squirrel stove which is what we typically rely on. We also have 3x radiators distributed throughout the boat which are heated by a 5.2kw Webasto thermo top diesel water heater which can be controlled with a timer.
Moving down the cabin corridor we have a separate bathroom on the left which includes wash basin with further storage cupboards underneath, enclosed shower and Thetford Porta Potti 565 cassette toilet (with 2x spare cassettes).
Moving from the bathroom to the bow we enter the bedroom which includes a double bed with two large drawers underneath and a fitted cupboard. Further storage is provided by the hanging wardrobe at the opposite corner of the room.
Exiting the doors from the bedroom we come to the bow deck which includes 2x bow lockers that also serve as benches for enjoying the morning coffee. Underneath we have additional storage in addition to a 150 gallon water tank which houses enough water for the two of us for at least 2.5-3 weeks.
She is powered by a reliable BMC1.8 engine (keel cooled) with PRM hydraulic gearbox. She includes a bank of four 110ah lead-acid leisure batteries (installed November 2023) in addition to a separate 105ah starter battery which are both charged by a Sterling alternator to battery charging system. A sterling pro charging system for shore power charging is also installed, which can also be used as an inverter to supply our 240v electric ports distributed throughout the boat. The engine bay also houses the hot water calorifier which can be heated by the engine, webasto system or 240v immersion when on shore power. The gas locker which can house 2x 13kg propane gas canisters.
She also comes with a front cratch & cover, and rear pram hood, 6x mooring pins, 2x mooring hooks, 2x mooring chains, 3x windlass and mallet.
