In 1945, the journalist and well know children’s author Arthur Ransome, commissioned Jack Giles to design a replacement for SELINA KING. The design was to take only minimum effort to sail and yet offer the ‘maximum comfort for two’. ‘PETER DUCK’, as she was called, was launched in 1947, named after Ransome’s third book about the ‘ancient mariner’ which had just been published. Clarity is a William Fife designed 6 Metre, built by Thornycroft & Co based in Copenhagen. Design number 722, Clarity (launched as Bonzo) was one of four sisters designed by William Fife. She was built to take part in the 1924 Olympic Games in Le Havre, France where she won a Silver. Like many of the early 6 Metres Clarity took part in the Scandinavian Gold Cup in 1926 and shortly after was sold to a Mr Jens Jespersen who was a Master Cabinetmaker in Copenhagen. AVOCET was designed by Thomas Harrison Butler in 1911 and is one of his earliest known surviving designs. The original MEMORY was one of THB’s favourite and he sailed aboard her on the Broads when in the ownership of the Suffling brothers of Cantley. In 1932 Frank Haywood, chief architect of the City of London instructed R J Prior and Son of Burnham on Crouch to build to the MEMORY design with a modern Bermudian rig. Built of Mahogany in 1961, "Yanita" is a classic Bermudan sloop rigged yacht. She is basically sound, but wull need work to return her to her former glory. "Lady of Stavoren" was built in 1939 by Wildschutt & Sons of Gaastmeer, Holland. Although built in 1939 work was not completed as she was then kept in a barn for the duration of the war. The owner's family were evacuated to England during the war, the owner unfortunately was killed whilst serving his country. In 1951 his widow brought the boat by freighter to England where she was berthed at Teddington on the Thames. Designed by Westmacott and built by Woodnutts in 1922. Details of her early years are not known but after her first major refit in 1983 her history has been well documented. In 1983 the new decks and coachroof were fitted and a new rig design put in. After this she was kept locally in Falmouth and raced successfully for periods of time.
