Wicormarine - Fareham Hampshire UK
Sigma 33 OOD. Built 1983 Marine Projects, Plymouth.
33' length 10'6" beam
For sale our much loved Sigma 33 OOD 'Heritage' hull number 188.
We have used Heritage in her cruising capacity over the last 3 years, sailing her largely on the weekends in and around the Solent and for family holidays on the South Coast. The previous owners have raced her regularly and successfully in the popular and well known Solent based Sigma 33 fleet, but we did not inherit the aspirations. She is nevertheless a fast cruising boat often sticking with much larger and more modern boats and is great fun to sail, with the ability to handle all weathers.
Cosmetically, electrically and mechanically we have spent the last three years undergoing a steady and comprehensive plan of upgrades and replacements. . She has 240v shore power connection, linked to an internal battery charger and 240v outlets throughout the boat. She is equipped with a TV antenna and is wired with speakers inside and out, although we have never used these.
Prior to our purchasing her, the gearbox seals and bearing were replaced in 2014, a common weak spot. She has three box files full of her entire history from new, including her original build certificate from Marine Projects, her SSR registration certificate and surveys at various points in her life as well as receipts and bills dating back to when she was new. All instrument and boat instruction manuals are present (a copy of the orginal Sigma manual is included as is racing specs and advice) and available is a comprehensive library of professional photographs from her previous encounters (QE2/Round the Island/Yachting World/Rick Tomlinson calendar). It is an unprecedented history file and extremely valuable to any future owner in being able to trace exactly what has been done and when and continue her place in the Sigma fleet.
She has always wintered on the hard and the 2015 survey showed no signs of osmosis.
She is in great overall condition for a 1983 boat, but also carries with her the marks and scars appropriate for her age and racing career. We replaced the washboards and have done other cosmetic jobs, but we have not set about to return Heritage to 'as new' but is in very tidy, presentable and useable state with some thoughtful upgrades to make her easy sailing.
List of replacements is as follows with the year replaced:

We have just hauled Heritage out and put her on the hard based at Wicormarine in Fareham which is easy to access all week round. As we are based some miles away we would need notice to accompany a visit, or you are welcome to take a look externally at your leisure. To sum up Heritage is in fine fettle and could easily be put back into racing trim or just cruised and enjoyed, as we have. We can recommend Wicor as a base and happy to advise and recommend people to maintain her at the yard. The list of recommended trades have a great reputation for value and workmanship.
Please contact me with expressions of interest via email in the first instance, we are motivated to sell quickly, so we will listen to sensible offers.

Volvo Penta MD2002 engine which is in excellent order and has new engine mounts fitted when the gearbox was repaired in 2014. We conducted a full top-end refurb and decoke including reconditioning the injectors in 2017. Valves re-seated, all new gaskets, seals, all filters and sacrificial anode fitted. We replace the oil and filter and impeller changed every winter when we haul her out and use an inhibitor to prevent salt build up in the water cooling system. Prior to our own servicing, we have receipts for engine winterising and re-commissioning dating back years.
We replaced the keel bolts when we bought her in 2015 prior to relaunch as per the survey recommendation. The heads of the bolts we starting to corrode to a point which would have made extraction tricky. We replaced with marine grade high tensile stainless steel rod and larger stainless washers, then double bolted to prevent these loosening. We replaced the cutlass bearing, stern gland packing, propshaft and propeller (twin blade folding approved by the 33 racing association).
