For sale is my rare British-built Solent Spear 35 - a beautiful gentleman's motor yacht that combines timeless classic styling with genuine offshore capability and modern practicality.
One of only four Solent Spear 35s ever built, she was designed by legendary Fairey Marine designer Alan Burnard. The Solent Spear was the final boat he ever designed.
Commissioned by Isle of Wight businessman Peter Morton, the original concept was simple: to create a fast, safe and capable offshore motor yacht that could comfortably handle challenging Solent conditions throughout the year. The result was a low-volume British-built motor yacht with classic proportions, modern construction and exceptional seakeeping.
Built by Casse Tête Marine, the Solent Spear features a deep-V offshore hull that delivers a superb ride in rougher conditions and inspires real confidence when the weather becomes less than perfect. Unlike many retro-styled launches, she is a genuinely capable all-weather cruising boat rather than simply a fair-weather harbour cruiser.
The enclosed wheelhouse and sheltered cockpit configuration make the boat particularly practical for UK cruising, providing excellent protection from the elements while retaining the open and sociable cockpit space that makes her such an enjoyable boat to spend time aboard.
Powered by twin Cummins 6BTA turbo diesel engines (approximately 370hp each) through Twin Disc gearboxes and conventional shaft drives, she combines strong performance with straightforward and dependable engineering. Bow and stern thrusters operated by remote control make close-quarters manoeuvring remarkably easy and allow confident single-handed handling when required.
Comfortable cruising speed is approximately 25-27 knots, with a recorded top speed of 34 knots during survey sea trials.
This is the actual boat featured in both Motor Boats Monthly and, more recently, Motor Boat & Yachting magazine's "World's Coolest Boats" and "Retro Classics" features.
Wherever she goes, this Solent Spear attracts attention and starts conversations. She appeals to those who appreciate low-volume British craftsmanship, classic design and boats with genuine pedigree and character.
