Description

Ugly Duckling is a well known 1972 Sagitta 35 designed by Sparkman & Stephens and built to an exemplary standard by Bianca Yachts in Denmark.

This classic yacht has been cruised extensively by her current custodians and raced both in classic events and in RORC and JOG where she has been successful against modern boats due to her tremendous seakeeping capabilities and a rather favourable IRC handicap.

The boat benefits from an extensive sail wardrobe including new laminate racing sails in 2025. She was re-engined in 2023. She had an engine upgrade in 2023 following an extensive refit in 2016 which included a full osmosis treatment.

Accommodation is comprised of three singles in the saloon, a spacious quarter berth and a double in the forepeak. There is hot and cold running water and good electronics with both 12v and 240v installations.

The Sagitta 35 was one of the very first Sparkman & Stephens designs to be based on what was then the forthcoming IOR rule in 1969. For her time she was very modern with broader stern sections and a flatter bilge than her contemporaries such as the S&S34.

In her current ownership she has won her class in the JOG Inshore Series, Hamble Classics (twice) and won the S&S Global Regatta Challenge Cup. In 2023 she claimed a bronze medal in the Rolex Fastnet IRC 4b class as well as the Yacht Club de France' Championnat Manche Atlantique en Equipage (IRC 3).

Ugly Duckling is in commission for 2026 and ready to cruise, race or indeed both.
