Lion is a beautifully presented 55-foot traditional stern narrowboat, built in 2001 by the highly regarded boat builder Steve Hudson. She boasts the classic Josher bow that enhances her elegant lines and the gentle upsweep of the hull towards the stern. With four berths, she offers the perfect blend of traditional charm and practical, comfortable living.
Stepping aboard from the well deck at the bow, you enter a welcoming saloon featuring a corner bar unit with radio and speakers, plus a useful corner cupboard above. An L-shaped seating area surrounds a choice of occasional or four-place dining table, with shelving and a bookcase opposite. This space converts easily into a large, comfortable second double berth when needed.
The well-equipped U-shaped galley includes a Vanette oven and grill, Thetford four-burner hob, Indesit washing machine and Inlander refrigerator. Ample storage is provided under the sink and drainer, together with a shelved larder unit opposite beneath the side hatch.
Further aft, the shower room (accessed from the corridor) offers a tiled shower with side fitted cupboard, Vetus electric macerating pump-out toilet, vanity unit with storage, fitted mirror and radiator.
The master cabin at the stern features a fixed four-poster style double bed, built-in double wardrobes, two small cupboards and generous under-bed storage.
A step leads up into the engine control room above the Beta 43 diesel engine, which has covered just 3,094 hours from new and regularly maintained every 250 hours by the current owner. From here, access opens onto the traditional stern deck.
Throughout the boat the quality oak panelling and joinery showcase the high standard of craftsmanship associated with the S M Hudson yard.
An Eberspächer diesel heater provides central heating and hot water to the master bedroom, shower room, galley and saloon, while a multi-fuel Morso Squirrel stove by the front entrance keeps the boat cosy in the coldest winter weather.
Recent upgrades include new LED lighting throughout and the hull was blacked and new anodes fitted in June 2026. Safety Certificate valied until 28th November, 2028.
Lion presents as a characterful yet practical traditional narrowboat, ready to enjoy.
