Eliza is a 50ft BCN tug style narrowboat with an interesting history. It was built as a 40ft craft in 1983 by Warren Bros of Burton on Trent, in an attempt to save the works from closure. Warren’s principal business was the fabrication of steel pressure vessels for the brewing industry. It is said that the quality of steel used may therefore be superior and a recent survey by Steve Hand (2013), confirms the good condition of the hull. The boat was surveyed again in 2016 and minor remedial works carried out. The boat was “stretched” by 10ft in 2000 by Streethay Wharf. The marine Lister JP2M was fitted in 2003 by Roger Fuller.
The boat is entered from the front end via the wonderfully large tug deck - great for al- fresco dining in summer and protected by a new cratch cover with glazed panels.
The front cabin has a stylish, modern feel with saloon, galley and bathroom being refurbished and updated in the last two years.
Internally the boat has 4 berths: a double berth can be created from the sofa in the saloon, and a further traditional drop down double in the back cabin. The saloon features a Faversham stove and a large futon style settee along with free standing storage. The galley gives lots of working space and is solid oak worktop on white shaker style units.
The shower room area is all new with some beautifully creative porthole modesty inserts.
The engine room is the heart of the boat and the engine itself just has to be heard.
Behind that lies the traditional back cabin, with cross bed and plenty of storage, leading to the stern deck.
Although this is an older boat, the care taken by her owners and the improvements made put her high up the desirable boats list with its character and good solid lines.
