Construction: Built from 1984 to 1992, the Westerly Merlin was the second design commissioned from Ed Dubois, aiming for higher performance and a more modern hull form than the Laurent Giles-designed Konsort. Although smaller than a Konsort, the Merlin has a better interior for most people, with a good-sized double aft berth. The Merlin is also generally faster than the Konsort. Merlins were built with fin or bilge keels; ours is a fin keel. About 170 were built during the production run, and like all Westerlys, the hulls were moulded to Lloyds standards, each issued with a Lloyds Hull Construction certificate. Different interior finishes were used, some with light ash veneers on the interior bulkheads, others with vinyl headlinings or wood veneer headlinings (like ours).

Owners Comments: Spellbound is currently on her permanent mooring at Wicor Reach. She was antifouled and her deck painted in March 2024. The engine service was carried out in April 2024. The sails were professionally cleaned and repaired in March 2023 and are in great condition.
