Nov 1976. Pentland. 32’6” Bilge Keeler.
Classic Laurent Giles design. Less common sloop rig giving better accommodation.
She has a good Vberth in the forepeak. Over head reading lights (LED) two port lights and overhead hatch. Shelves each side and storage lockers under. Also a good height wardrobe with hanging rail and port light.
Aft of this cabin is a wet locker to starboard and to port is the
Heads with original Lavac porcelain sea toilet. Far better than many modern sea toilets! Also stainless basin and port light. All port lights were replaced when we bought the boat ad are in perfect condition.
The main cabin has the galley to starboard and a central foldout table.
Slide out chart table is to port and aft in the cabin.
Easy access to the engine is behind the step up to the cockpit.
Cockpit has tailor made cushions and teak grating.
The helm is a wheel with compass binacle.
On the side of the binnacle is a Garmin 551s plotter and dsc vhf.
We have a tent, covering the cockpit making a huge extra weather proofed area of useable accommodation.
Finally the aft cabin is accessed behind the helm and has two comfortable and long single berths with reading lights and port lights
We’ve owned her for almost 19years and previous owners (friends of ours) for 15 years before that.
We have replaced:
Engine 18years ago. New Solé 23hp diesel.
Standing rigging 2012 with new Furlex furler
New Sails 2023
Also in our ownership we have fitted a new electric windlass, new gas cooker, new vhf and a Garmin colour plotter.
We have epoxied the whole hull and repainted.
We have had the two keels removed, filled and faired and painted.
We have stripped out the interior from stem to stern and relined with patterned cut and stitched vinyl to original spec from Hawke House.
Following a serious water leak we relined the aft cabin again in 2024, removed all deck fittings and the pushpit resealing all
The boat is in constant use but early retirement is suggesting we let her have a new owner!
I am sat on board typing this as we are away with her now!
She’s a pure joy to be away on in this fabulous weather!

Having just received an email from RYA on “selling your boat” ( how did they know??)
Caskade is old enough to be deemed as VAT paid.
She is Part 1 registered and has the lovely old registration document.
I own 64/64ths of her and she is not subject to finance, nor has she been in my ownership nor the last!
In the winter of 23/24 we had her in a shed.
Stripped out the aft cabin and refitted with new cushions and curtains.
We refurbished the cooling system as some of the brass pipes had signs of wear and corrosion. New belt.
I have changed all filters and oil annually regardless of use. Some years use would be as little as 5hrs but I was brought up on the principle that oil is cheaper than steel.
Batteries are good (2) and have been replaced twice in my ownership.
When we fitted the new engine we also fitted a new plastic fuel tank.
Dartmouth fuel barge does not yet sell bio fuels and I credit this with the fact that we’ve never had any fuel problems. (Diesel bug) I would confidently motor across the channel tomorrow!
The original Sestrel compass was a bit sorry for itself when we bought the boat and unable to find a good replacement I sent it to some clever chaps in Kent who stripped it down, cleaned the card, cleaned the glass and refilled and resealed and fitted a new light. The compass still looks good today.
We have George on board and he will steer us well when we want to sit back. George is the auto helm.
I will try to add what make etc later!
I’ve added a couple of pictures including the plate showing the build number R300
18 years ago I removed all the mahogany down below and it all went home and was sanded clean then revarnished and stays in good condition today. Behind every piece is pencilled “R300”
I serviced a winch this season and scratched under the top cover was “R300”
It’s not really relevant but I feel it just adds to the originality of the yacht!
We have a lovely colourful cruising chute which we’ve used a time or two.
There’s a storm gib and another gib neither of which I have ever taken out of their bags! Roller reefing has rendered them redundant!
Some westerly’s had a manufacturing flaw in their rudders which led to the rudder falling off which doesn’t aid sailing to well.
Caskade’s rudder was XRayed in Plymouth in 2001 and confirmed as ok.
More will follow as I think of it..:..:
Just realised I haven’t said where we are! River Dart, Devon
