Rare Midlands and Coast fully converted narrow boat built by Yarwoods of Northwich. She started life as a horse drawn boat operating from Wolverhampton. She was gauged in February 1926 at Factory Three. Full history known and documented. Registered with National Historic Ships 2729. She was shortened and motorised by Harris Bros at Netherton in 1937 as a tug for Hingleys Limited (Halesowen) and renamed Crown. Bought by Malcolm Braine in 1958 and a new steel cabin and back cabin fitted and renamed Lion. Sold as a leisure boat. She was lengthened to 70ft in 1974 at Braunston with a steel base plate. Back cabin and interior doors painted by Jess Owen of Charity Dock in 1970s. Purchased by the current owner in August 2010 from John and Phyllis Saxon. New back cabin range and flue pipe fitted in 2010. Full repaint carried out in 2021 by Norbury Wharf in original 1925 livery. Other interior painting by Mavis Waldron. Interior renovation of the galley and bathroom was carried out at Stretton in 2022. Oak flooring in main cabin and new thermal curtains fitted in 2022. Survey available from February 2024. Complete new stern gear fitted in April 2025 including new propeller. Layout from the rear comprises of fully fitted and traditionally decorated back cabin, engine room with Lister HR2 (fitted 2012), double bedroom with wardrobe over foot of bed, bathroom with vanity basin, Thetford 565 toilet and hip bath and shower over. Second double bedroom with ample storage, fully fitted galley with fridge (new 2024), full sized gas cooker (new 2024), stainless sink/drainer. At the front of the cabin is the spacious saloon with Bubble diesel stove. The North has been used as a liveaboard during all seasons. Genuine reason for sale – owner moving overseas. Mooring available locally on Shropshire Union Canal to be negotiated separately if required.
